We are the "snack family" for Lia's class this week. We are required to take a healthy snack for 25 children everyday. Since we were assigned a week so close to Halloween, I decided to get a bit into the theme. I LOVE Family Fun magazine...if you haven't checked it out...you really should! It is full of great activities that are fun (well...duh..that's in the name...but they really deliver on that!)...and well...easy for the craft impaired such as myself. I found this great idea for "edible eyeballs" on their website. Lia actually ate them for dinner last night...and was so excited to take them to school today. I was a little worried that carrots, cream cheese and black olives wouldn't be to everyone's liking...but for the most part eating "eyeballs" was a big hit with the pre-school set!
And so you don't think we are just about the gory here, I thought I would post this picture of the apple pie we made over the weekend. I tried a new recipe from my friend, Kathy...and it was soooo yummy!!

Oh my gosh!! Those eyeballs are so cute -- might have to try them on my "ewww-veggies" girl! And that apple pie is making me slobber all over my keyboard --it looks so good. How DO you do all that you do and do it so well???
Janet
Oh good... you are back. I almost had a stroke when I came here, only to find you had swteped out for awhile. Apple pie is most impressive. And I am sure that the eyeballs were a big hit. You are giving Lia an early appreciation for the finer things in life, Kate. Like special holiday themed food. I love that---it makes life fun!
The pie looks yummy! I love family fun magazine!!!
The eyeballs are so cute...I bet they were a hit!!
And the pie....YUMMO!! You go girl....beautiful lattice work!!
Have a good night!
Lisa
So that's what they look like :)
The pie is gorgeous. If you felt like you wanted to share the recipe with someone and decided to share it with me, that would be wonderful.
I made my first apple pie last year. It turned out pretty well, but this one looks fantastic.
I dream of making my own lattice top apple pie. How hard was it?
I love the eyeballs! I don't think my kids would get over the carrots and/or olives and actually eat them, though!
Ben's birthday party last year was halloween themed, so I made all sorts of gross looking treats. None were healthy though!
I'm so glad you're back! :)
Rachel

Those eye balls are perfect for this time of year and the pie looks delicious too!
So, how was the wine with the apple pie??? My kinda pie!!

I'm about to walk the 3day and now I'm craving that pie! Sad, but true! And the eyeballs...stinkin' cute!
Loving the eye balls- and I bet a huge hit- hey- it's an eyeball- sounds perfect for those preschoolers!
And that pie looks like it should be featured on a magazine cover. Yummy.
