Dim Sum for Everyone...and a Lion Dance too!!

We officially rang in Chinese New Year this afternoon with our dearest adoption friends. We enjoyed Dim Sum and then ventured out into the gloriously warm February afternoon to watch the very loud, very colorful Lion Dance. It was an afternoon well spent...with memories to last a lifetime.

Almost the whole gang...gosh it's hard to get everyone in the same place at the same time...not to mention this was taken in the driveway of a Fire Department...and we had to move quickly out of the way at one point because Philadelphia's finest were called to duty! Very dramatic...and exciting!

One of my favorite shots of the day...a miniature Lion...maneuvered expertly by this little guy!:

And, of course, my sweet girl ready to head out the door in her beautiful Chinese dress...she was thrilled to be dressed up!

We have crossed over from upper respiratory to the flu....tonight Sarah spiked a high fever and began vomiting....I am thinking we are in for a week similar to what you went through last week:(

Looks like a great celebration! What better way to spend it than with your close adoption friends. Your pictures are wonderful (as usual). I love the little boy in your group in his mao jacket!

What a rocking celebration!!! I wish I lived near a Chinatown. The girls all looked sooo precious. I love Lia in her silk. She is stunning! Glad you all had an amazing time!

Great pictures! Next year we may come up to spend the day with the Fish family. It's much bigger in Philly than it is here, which surprised me. But the rising rents near the MCI Center kind of killed off our China Town.

You know I grew up in the Philly burbs, went to La Salle and never really took advantage of CHina town. It looks GREAT! Love that last shot o Lia:) I am so glad you had a good day and that your angel is better.

I'll bet the only thing missing from this celebration to match the one we witnessed in China was about three hours worth of continuous, deafening, mind destroying fireworks. So it looked fabulous! What a day! I gotta come next year!

That last picture is stunning.

Looks like a great day. You are so forunate to be in a big city and have the chance to do such things...AZ has too many cowboys. ; )

OK, our CNY celebration in a high school auditorium looks so sad compared to one in Chinatown!! Your photos of the day are great. What a cute little guy in the little lion's head. And I am pretty amazed that you were able to pull off that group photo. What cute kids!! But my favorite has to be the bottom photo of Lia. What a beautiful girl.

What a wonderful gift to have all your friends so close like that! Lia has a beauty that is far deeper than skin deep...it just shimmers in her eyes

Hi, Kate! Just found you on Mireille's site. Looking at your pics and was like, wait a minute...that looks like Philly! We live in Bucks County. Not far at all. Been hoping to find other adoptive moms around here. Shoot me over an email if you'd like and I'll invite you to our private blog. Lia is just beautiful! We are adopting a girl from Thailand...Ruby Kate. She is almost 2 and we are dying to go get her!
All the best,
Jennifer

Oh my goodness, how much fun did you guys have!!! The closest Chinatown to us is in Chicago (kind of a hike, wish it wasn't!) And that last picture of Lia is just BREATHTAKINGLY gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!

Love,
Rebecca

PS The settings on that bathtime picture you asked about - f1.4, ISO 800, 1/80. That 1.4 lens is so nice for indoor!! There was a window behind the boys, so the wide open aperture blew out the background and made it white.
