Update: We got the test results back today(1/13/09)...sooner than I expected...and both the blood and urine were all clear! Hooray!
During Lia's 4 year old check up in December, I discussed the possibility of melamine exposure with her pediatrician. While we don't suspect any problems, I agreed with the doctor that it was most prudent to run the lab work just to make sure. I have really been dragging my feet on this one, but I finally took her to the lab today. Lia was such a trooper, charming the pants off of everyone from the receptionist to the phlebotomist along the way. We were able to complete the blood draw with a minimum of tears...and when I told Lia she could choose any treat she wanted, she requested hot chocolate. I secretly believe that her favorite part is stirring the whipped cream in rather than the actual drinking...but if she's happy than so am I! I was extremely glad to check this "obligation" off my to do list...and will breathe one last sigh of relief when we get the all clear from the doctor...hopefully in a few days.

Glad to hear it went well today!!
She is just too cute with that big mug of Hot Cocoa....she looks so tiny sipping from it!!
Hope you get the "all clear" report very soon!!
Lisa
PS. Sorry that email was all over the place...I started it last night and finished it this morning before 6am and my first cup of Joe....I hope it made some sense to you...
Yeah, Kate!!! This sounds condescending and I don't mean it to be... but I am so proud of you! I know that's not a fun test. No one wants their baby to go through it. But you did it. And I'm so glad. (Plus, that negative test result will ease your mind every time the story pops up on the news again.)
Wow! Minimal tears!?! She rocks! My girls freak out if we just pass by the pedi's office! I'm sure you'll hear good results in a few days! The hot chocolate looks yummy...got any more? I'll be there in 5~
So glad it went well! Love that cup, such a cutie pie!
I am glad the stick was not too bad....They checked Kate's urine but I think we need to do more based on some things I have learned.
I really hope you get good news soon.
I love the photos of Lia drinking the hot chocolate. She looks so cute and cozy!!!
I, in fact, just finished mine from Starbucks. I am slightly addicted to the salted caramel hot choc!
Yummy!

Glad the test went well. I think minimal tears for a blood draw is incredible. Hope you hear all is negative soon.

Kate,
I'm glad that you got sweet girl tested. I know you will be relieved when you get negative test results. If I were her, I would have chosen chocolate, too : ) I knew I loved that little girl. She is so precious...such sweet pics!!!
It sounds like Lia was a real trooper! Cute cocoa pictures!
I bet Lia charmed everyone in her path! She is such a beautiful little girl.
I hope you get good news about the results soon. I still need to get Mia checked - the appointment is next month. We've had to reschedule three times!
Yum -- hot chocolate -- sounds tasty! Well, all chocolate sounds good to me! Glad to hear it went so well -- way to go Lia!

What a big girl : ) I am happy that all the test came back good! I have yet to take Addison for the ultrasound that our ped ordered.
Hot chocolate is the drink of choice in this house too : )
How funny, my twin girls do the same. Like hot chocolate or tea, just to put sugar into it and stir...they LOVE to stir. When they were 4 but now at 6 they still like to stir...what is it about that?? Check out my blog at http://funkydoodledonkey.blogspot.com adopted twins from Thailand living in South Africa...
yay!!!!!

Kate,
I am glad all the tests came back negative. I will be bringing it up at Katie's 4 year old visit too.
Love the photos of Lia with her Hot Chocolate. Katie loves it too. She calls it "Chocolate Hot" and now that is what Dan and I call it too.
Jen

Good girl, Lia. I need to do this too. I don't know much about it--- but it has been on my mind. Libby is addicted to "Hot Shloket" She & I loved these photos!
Glad all things went well and hope that Lia is just fine! She looks so cute sipping her hot chocolate -we need a little of that today as it is 23 below zero - eekkk! Hope you enjoy a great weekend!
